Article marketing promotion gets such a great Press from most Internet Marketing ‘gurus’, that anyone might think you can slap up a few articles and watch the cash roll in. Mind you, to listen to some of them, you’d think it was possible to make a six figure sum before you’ve finished your breakfast.

Let’s look at what article marketing can do for your website or blog and what it definitely can’t.

First big plus for Article Marketing is that it doesn’t cost anything to do. You may have heard that 100 times but it’s a big deal. You can get so lost in the mind-boggling sums of money that marketers talk about (and sometimes actually earn!) that you can overlook your running costs. So a free marketing method is a big deal.

Secondly, it’s a great way to put your message and personality across in a way that’s much harder with a directory listing or a tweet. If you know your subject and write in an engaging way, you are doing your online ‘rep’ no harm at all.

Thirdly, as long as you keyword optimise your article and place those keywords in the anchor text of any links you have in the ‘Resource Box’ underneath your article, then your article (if you’ve chosen good keywords) has a chance of making Google’s organic search listings on page 1. Free traffic at no cost.

Fourthly, if people like your article and take it for their own site (which they can so long as they credit you as the author and keep your Resource Box intact) then your article marketing promotion efforts are even more rewarded.

So what are the cons? It’s all looking good so far! The first is the time that it takes for serious amounts of traffic to be generated. If you want immediate results, you’ll have to put your hand in your pocket for pay per click or banner advertising on high traffic ezines.

Secondly, if you don’t keyword optimise the articles, then the Search Engines will not pick them up and give you the ‘golden fleece’ of a page 1, free search listing. The Resource Box advice is just as important.

Thirdly, if you write boring articles, or you outsource the task to people with dubious grasp of English and don’t bother proof reading and checking for keyword optimisation, then you are producing lots of ‘zero’ – which equals zero!

Of course, you can automate your article marketing promotion campaign, but I’d strongly recommend a visit to the Warrior forum to get real testimonials before you cough up your cash. All reviews in the search engines contain affiliate links to that product – even the sites that are optimised for ‘Article Marketing Scam’!

Am I saying give article marketing the body swerve? Of course not. It’s a great way to create permanent web real estate for yourself that will siphon targeted traffic into your marketing funnel until the cows come home. But is it a pushbutton short cut to immediate and implausible riches? It doesn’t take a whole article to answer that question.
